*Lagu ini sudah menjadi lagu favoritku dari jaman SMA dulu. Beatnya yang easy listening dan membawa orang berjoget, membuatku langsung suka dari awal. Baru-baru ini mendadak kangen lagi sama lagu ini. Ketika aku cerita ke temen di kantor, baru tau kalo lagu ini tuh ada filmnya. Nah langsung deh searching karena penasaran. Dan ternyata lagu ini adalah lagu pamungkas dari band the Wonders, yang mana adalah pemeran utama di film ini. Film directorial debut dari Tom Hanks ini sangat bagus. Karena band the wonders aku kirain emang beneran ada, eh ternyata cuma fictional band yang dibangun dalam cerita. Mereka seolah-olah kaya band rock and roll beneran di dunia nyata. Para aktor bener-bener aku kasih empat jempol dah buat kualitas akting ngeband mereka. Mereka itu keren dan rock and roll banget gayanya. Setiap pemain juga punya karakter yg kuat masing-masing. Ada si leader yg idealis dan mau semua berjalan seperti keinginan dan caranya, ada gitarisnya yg koplak dan santaaai banget. Ada pemain bass yg namanya ga pernah disebutkan dan punya sifat mengikuti arus tapi di sisi lain juga punya dunia dan mimpinya sendiri. Dan tokoh utama si cakep ikemen aku, Tom Everett Scott, sebagai drummer yg paling berkepala dingin dan profesional. Dia adalah tulang punggung band dan sangat perhatian sama si cantik Faye, pacar dari Jimmy sang vokalis. Faye sudah kaya manajer mereka yang setia menemani the Wonders dari awal karir sampai mereka bisa meraih kesuksesan.

Film ambisius garapan Tom Hanks ini bener-bener dieksekusi dengan sangat baik. Jalan ceritanya menghibur dan simple, yaitu menceritakan kehidupan band-band "one hit wonder" di tahun 60-an yg dengan cepat meraih sukses dan popularitas tapi kemudian bubar karena masing-masing personil masih kuat dengan egonya masing-masing. Sebagai orang berkepala dingin, Skitch (drummer) menyesali bubarnya The Wonders, Namun berkat The Wonders pula ia mampu mengunjungi California dan bertemu idolanya Del Paxton, musisi jazz yang akhirnya berkesempatan mengajaknya nge-jam bareng. Akhir perjalanan The Wonders menjadi awal langkah Skitch menekuni passion lamanya di dunia jazz dan menemukan kembali tujuan sesungguhnya. Ini adalah salah satu nilai moral yg diselipkan dalam film ini. Bagaimana seseorang yg memang passionate terhadap sesuatu, tetap akan berkarya dimanapun, dengan siapapun, dan dalam keadaan apapun. Guy Patterson alias Skitch, tetap tidak menyerah dengan passionnya di musik jazz walaupun bandnya bubar.

Akting para fangirl atau groupies nya juga total banget lah. Beneran tergila-gila sama sebuah band sampe histeris-histeris gitu. Oya, satu hal ini yg bikin aku salut. Masing-masing personil ternyata baru megang alat musik pas mau main film ini. Ga ketara banget soalnya mereka udah kaya band rock and roll asli yg emang udah ngeband dari lama. Ini semua adalah hasil kerja keras mereka selama 6 minggu sebelum syuting dimulai. Mereka berlatih secara intensif supaya bisa menguasai instrumen masing-masing. Pokoknya nonton film ini dijamin ngakak dan terhibur sama soundtrack-soundtrack yg ada di film ini. Salah satunya ya "That Thing You Do", one-hit wonder song from the Wonders. ^^
